Enjoying the beach while we can

We have our last weekends in Coos Bay pretty much planned out until we move. So, we thought we would go to the beach again on Saturday since that is one thing we are leaving behind. I forgot it was spring break, so it was busy! I've never seen that many people there. But, it was still fun to people watch, look at tide pools and pet other people's dogs.

Some big waves. Jamir is yawning-nothing new ;)
Posing for Abercrombie
Friendly dog. I think animals know when I have the camera out.

Mingus Park Photos

A friend is letting me borrow her camera for a little while. I've learned that the dslr that I bought 3 years ago was entry entry level and not very good (this is not the same powershot I have now that takes awesome landscape photos). I have my heart set on a certain Canon camera, but it was fun to play around with a Nikon. Mingus park is beautiful right now because the flowers are blooming (I've been checking almost everyday). Tell me what you think!

Poor Jamir has to model for me a lot.

I think my favorite
I could have a better expression on my face, but with a 10 sec timer its hard to be natural sometimes :)
And a friendly cat thought it would pose for me as well.

Humbug Mountain

Yesterday we hiked up Humbug Mountain (about an hour south of us). The trail itself was beautiful with a lot of ferns, small waterfalls, and clovers. There were some small outlooks of the ocean, but not much at the top to see unfortunately. But, it felt really nice to be going UP on a trail for once since most trails are flat here. It was a beautiful, nature filled Saturday.

The majority of what the trail looked like.
Our new hiking boots! Along with clovers for St. Patrick's Day
First beautiful view of the ocean.
We had to crawl under a couple of these...
Second view (higher)
The top was a little grassy area, that had a SLIVER of view...a little disappointing, but it was still fun to have a picnic and enjoy the sun.

We love sugar snap peas
Now all of our attempts to get a jumping pic...

There we go
And Jamir thought this was artsy...and I kinda liked it too :) so why not.
Now to go back down.
Awesome Oregon trees.

Port Orford is on the way so we stopped to check out beach and lighthouse.

Cliff overlooking beach

Lighthouse to the left.

Driving back I see these beautiful yellow flowers growing all over the place so of course I say, "Jamir I NEED to take a picture right now with the golden hour sun." And my patient husband turns the car around to humor me.

There were so many!

This is what a husband looks like who has to pose for his wife so she can get a shot. :) :) This pic is raw out of the camera.

Kickoff to the Camping Season

We have a goal this year to camp more. And to get better at it. We spent Friday night at Laverne County Park near Coquille. Despite the rain, it was really fun. We were the only campers besides a trailer in the whole park. It was peaceful and very wet. Friday night we had some hobo dinners and banana cream pie woof'ems (explanation below) and Saturday we explored the little falls and river after having eggs and sausage under the rain.

Very green camp
Indi, chopping wood.

I had this expectation of taking amazing photos around the campfire. Unfortunately, that doesn't always happen. The good news is that I will have more practice this summer.
Jamir, the lone camper (trying to keep the fire alive).
Lantern pics.

We always start laughing when the timer goes off...but better than stiff poses right?

What I woke up to Saturday morning.
Jamir making a shelter
There were giant stumps all over.

Shelter while we eat breakfast
We made the woof'ems out of sticks we found in the park. We sanded them and drilled a hole. Basically, you cook a biscuit around them and fill with anything you want.
Standing in the river.

Skipping stones
And it stormed crazy on Sunday, but I wanted a picture next to this tree I saw while running at Mingus Park. The rest of the blossoms will open soon so I'm excited for that!
