Day 4; Chichen Itza, Ik Kil and Isla Mujeres

The last day of our trip. We ventured to Chichen Itza and explored this HUGE Mayan ruin area. I realized I didn't take that many pictures, but it was quite spectacular. After getting hot from walking around, we jumped in the cenote, Ik Kil, nearby. It was a little crowded, but it was a really cool cenote. I loved how there were vines growing down from the hole in the ceiling down to the water.

We felt cheated for missing the first part of our trip, but we were able to visit Isla Mujeres (a small island 20 mins ferry away from Cancun) at the end of the day before catching our flight to Hermosillo. It was the beautiful clear beach we were looking for. Wish we could have stayed longer.

I probably look irritated in videos..I'm just not a person who likes to be in videos :)

Tons of these. They said it had wooden roofs to make a marketplace.

A large version of the "hit the ball through the hole with your hip" game.
A little view of Ik Kil

On the way back to Cancun we stopped in a little town and ate street food. It rained like crazy on us, but was really refreshing.

On the ferry to Isla Mujeres. Our eco sunscreen doesn't rub in very well.

Happy we found a clear beach.

As we were leaving. So pretty. Next time we will spend more time on this island.

Sad to leave, but Cancun gave us a beautiful sunset.

And one pic of us back in Hermosillo with the family. Kino Beach.

Day 3; Tulum and Coba Ruins, Gran Cenote

We drove down to Tulum after Playa del Carmen to see more of the ruins and explore the cenotes. The first were the ruins in Tulum. We got a Mormon guide and was able to see the ruins from the perspective of the church. Very cool how pieces fit together.
After getting hot at the ruins, we headed to Gran Cenote. Cenotes are basically fresh water pools or rivers (usually underground) that the Mayans believed were sacred. The water was so clear and beautiful! And it was fun to snorkle and see all the bats in the cave!
The last ruins of the day were in Coba. We rented bikes and climbed the scary steep staircase to the top. It was fun imagine how the ruins would have looked in pristine condition.
A little visit to the beach in Tulum, shrimp tacos, and back to our tiny hostel for the night.

Tulum ruins

The middle figure is supposed to be a descending baby..

This used to have these handprints all over..hands with 7 fingers.

The main temple. On April 6, the sun lines up directly with the holes inside to create a beautiful show.

Beach right next to ruins
Always iguanas everywhere
Refreshing water at Gran Cenote

View from above..it looks like a pool in a circular cliff.
Stairs at Coba

We made it to the top!

Going back down was more scary for me.

Scooted on my bottom the whole way down

More ruins

Where they played ball. Not sure the name, but you try to hit the ball through the hoop with your hip

Stopping at a little shop on the way out
Loved this palm tree at the beach

Thinking of our baby boy!

Too much seaweed! Luckily we found a better beach later

Jamir felt silly me taking a pic here. I just like the panderias.
Shrimp and tacos al pastor
Our TINY hostel. We did it for the experience...but sure that will be the last time.

We also met a lot of hippies at that hostel. At least it had AC.
