Exploring Up North/Explorando el Norte

We spent the weekend visiting Chris and Maren up in Newport. The moving date is getting closer so this may be the last time we go there for a while. We were able to wake up early Saturday morning to see Cape Perpetua's sites (about halfway to Newport) at high tide. Then we played frisbee golf with Chris, had a picnic and hiked to Drift Creek Falls in the evening. Thanks Chris and Maren for letting us stay!

We got up early to visit Cape Perpetua  that has "Spouting Horn", "Devil's Churn" and "Thor's Well". Unfortunately, we couldn't find Thor's Well, but the other sites were really cool. It was almost scary getting close to the loud waves hitting the rocks. It was a beautiful way to start Saturday morning.

Spouting horn
Basically, when the wave hits, it looks like steam coming from a smaller hole. Pretty awesome.
No name for this, just a place where the waves were big.

Devil's Churn

It's hard to show how large the waves really were.
Enjoying the sunrise.

I told Jamir to hug the whale :)
Chris took us to a cool place to play frisbee golf. It looked a lot like Lord of the Rings; in a forest where the hobbits live. It was fun to explore from hole to hole and try to not get the frisbees lost in the bushes.

Thought these bottle caps were cool.

I love how the light comes through the trees.
I call this "Brothers on a Log"
Climbing up from below.
cool log bridge and stairs.
After lunch, we decided to venture to Drift Creek Falls. The drive was so windy, but pretty. It was a nice hike-although the best part is definitely the end. The suspension bridge was awesome! We were all pretty hungry and tired after, but I felt happy we did it.
