Redwoods and Ocean

Jedediah Smith Redwoods Park is 2 hours south of us. I have been wanting to see some Redwoods since we moved to Oregon almost 2 years ago. On a whim we decided to take work off Friday and head down there and show Ben the ocean as well. We hiked a short trail to Stout Grove, picnicked along the Smith River and toured the little coastal town of Crescent City in California. It is the farthest Ben has been away from home and he did great!

I'm ready to go!
The beginning of trail. I forgot how humid and cold it was close to the coast. We also met some college students from UT parked next to us.
Quick snack before we head out.
Happy to play after napping 2 hours
That face.
Our little hiker.
The Smith River went along the trail. It was so clear and blue!

Ben slept through the whole thing. Guess we will have to come back when he can run around the trees.

Big trees!
It's hard to describe how big. Pics never show how cool.

Walked out to the river. It was warmer than in the trees!
clear clear water.
SOO tall.

Trunk of a fallen tree.
See the people on top of the log? It was huge.

After our hike we headed to the picnic area by the river. It was sandy and warm while we snacked. We even met a guy who went to BYU. It's always a small world.

cute beach baby

Next stop; Crescent City. It was more open than Oregon coastal towns (less pine and more palm trees I think). It was still cold, but fun to walk around the pier, lighthouse and beach.

Really long pier.
Again, Ben slept the whole time.

Pretty lighthouse. It is still a working one.

Flowers along the beach.

Getting Ben ready to touch the water.
He looks happy right? Now he can say he has touched the ocean.
On the way home we stopped in Grants Pass for some Mexican food. Si Casa Flores is a cute place with a lot of charm.

Lot's to look at.
